PUL Begins
Membership Drive
(Monrovia
– May 7, 2008) The
Press Union of Liberia informs all its members and those wishing to be
member that the annual accreditation exercise has commenced and runs to
August 10th 2008.
The
accreditation will cover all categories of individual and institutional
membership. New members are to apply in writing to the
Secretary-General of the PUL.
The
PUL Membership Committee has been mandated to conduct a rigorous
screening process to ensure transparency in the categorization of
members.Categories of membership include: Full Member, Associate
Member, Affiliate Member and Honorary Member.
Two
Leave for Training
(Monrovia
– May 5, 2008)
Two members of the Press Union of Liberia will leave the country Sunday
for the Ghanaian Capitol, Accra to participate in a three-day workshop
on “The Media’s Role in Conflict Transformation and
Peace Building.”
Heritage
Newspaper’s Editor-In-Chief and PUL Vice President, Nathan
Bengu, and
News Newspaper’s Sub-Editor George Bardue, will be among
senior
journalists in the sub region at the training.
The
international press workshop is being organized and conducted by the
German International Institute for Journalism (IIJ) and held at the
International Press center in Accra.
Among
topics to be covered at the training are global and local patterns of
conflict coverage, conflict sensitive journalism and challenges in
covering conflict.
PUL
says, the workshop seeks to examine current conflict reporting and
explore more conflict-sensitive reporting as an opportunity for future
journalism development in the West African region.The organizers are
also keen on strengthening accurate and responsible journalism to
mitigate the escalation of violence in the sub-region and promote
reconciliation.
As
part of the
training, participants will visit the Kofi Annan Peacekeeping Training
Center in Accra.

Launch CNN Awards
(Monrovia,
January 15, 2008) The
launching will take place in Monrovia this Wednesday, of the CNN
MultiChoice African Journalist Awards 2008.
The
CNN competition is being launched in Liberia under the auspices of
Consolidated Group in partnership with the Press Union of Liberia.
The
CNN competition aims to reinforce the importance of the
journalists’
role in Africa. It also seeks to recognize and develop journalistic
talent across all disciplines.
There
are seventeen prizes at stake in various categories and it is open to
African professional journalists including freelancers.
During
the launching ceremony, which takes place at the PUL headquarters at
11:00 am, the Press Union and Consolidated Group will sign a memorandum
of understanding.
Under
the MOU, the Consolidated Group will provide DSTV and Internet Services
to the PUL to enhance the resource capacity of the Union.
